The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW) is a statewide
membership organization working to end violence. The member programs of the coalition
include local, regional, and statewide organizations advocating on behalf of battered
women and their children. The voting membership (80) is comprised of organizations which have a
primary focus of providing direct advocacy services to battered women and their children or which
advocate regionally or statewide on behalf of battered women and their children. Non-voting
membership (39) includes groups and organizations who support the mission of the coalition,
but are not organized with a primary focus on providing direct advocacy for battered women
and their children.
MCBW member programs are generally private, non-profit organizations who operate independently to serve a
specific geographic area or specific constituency. Sources of funding for direct service advocacy programs
include federal, state, and county grants, General Assistance per diems (for emergency shelter
for low-income battered women), court fines contributions, foundations, corporations, private contributions,
and fundraisers.
